There are many festivals in Tuscany, particularly in the summer - here are details of a few

Puccini Festival, Torre del Lago

Every year from mid July to end August the Puccini festival is held at Torre del Lago near Lucca where Puccini lived.  You can book tickets through www.puccinifestival.it.  We can recommend this festival – we have been to several Puccini operas there and have thoroughly enjoyed them.  The performance begins late, at 9.30 pm.

Andrea Bocelli’s Teatro del Silenzio, Lajatico

The Theatre of Silence is at Lajatico – a ten minute drive from Chianni.  There is one performance a year – an underutilised asset!  See www.teatrodelsilenzio.it for more details.

Festa di San Ranieri, Pisa

Held on 16 June each year.  The River Arno is lined with torches at night and the next day a regatta is held.  See www.discovertuscany.com/it/pisa/luminara-san-ranieri.html

Cherry Festival (Festa delle Ciliegie), Lari

Lari is a small place near Chianni where end at May/early June a cherry festival is held. The local cherry producers set up stands in the main square offering baskets of fresh fruit and cherry jams and liqueurs.

Wild Boar Festival (Sagra del Cinghiale), Chianni

Held in November each year this is the major festival in Chianni.  It is almost medieval and is not for the squeamish as the hunters parade wild boars they have shot through the main street.  There are also bands and very good communal eating.
